    Description

1839-O $2 1/2 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Breen-6153, Variety 28, R.4. Close fraction. Designated by NGC as a mint error due to a medallic alignment of the dies. U.S. coins typically have "coin turn," but the New Orleans Mint was only in its sophomore year when the present piece was struck. The high points are mildly glossy and the smooth green-gold fields are slightly subdued. A minor obverse rim ding at 9 o'clock.
From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.
