    Description

    Lustrous MS63 1839-O Quarter Eagle

1839-O $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. High Date, Wide Fraction, Breen-6152, McCloskey-A, R.3. late Die State. The date is high, with the 9 higher than the 3 and nearly touching the curl. Both the numerator and denominator are slightly away from the diagonal fraction bar. This example is clearly from an extremely late state of the reverse die, and softly struck on the lower right side, apparently from die misalignment. The arrowheads are faint, the arrow shafts are incomplete, more than the usual detail is missing from the leaf clusters, the fraction and AMERICA are faint, and a bolder-than-normal die crack extends from the top of the 2 through the lowest claw tip, the leftmost leaf pair, the I of UNITED and to the rim. Bold luster radiates from the pretty, green-gold surfaces, and the right-side obverse stars are also weaker than the left-side stars. A popular type coin. Population: 7 in 63, 5 finer (7/06).(Registry values: P3)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25G7, PCGS# 7701)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 89.92% Gold, 10.08% Copper
