    Description

NGC 1839-O MS 61. A popular coin because of its status as a one year type, this being the only year a Classic quarter eagle was struck in the New Orleans facility. Most examples are in the VF-XF grade range and mint state pieces such as this one are quite rare. The striking details are strong in the centers with none of the characteristic weakness on the eagle, the peripheral stars on the obverse are also well defined. The surfaces overall are a bit too dull to grade any higher, but show complete, if somewhat subdued, luster. There are only a few small, and rather insignificant, field marks on either side, none of which merit individual mention. One of the finest examples known of this popular obverse mintmark quarter eagle. Population: 1 in 16, 10 finer.
