    Description

Pleasing Mint State 1839-O Quarter Eagle

1839-O MS 62 NGC. A popular coin because of its status as a one-year type, this being the only year a Classic quarter eagle was struck in the New Orleans facility. Most examples are in the VF-XF grade range and mint state pieces such as this one are quite rare. The striking details are strong in the centers with none of the characteristic weakness on the eagle, and the peripheral stars on the obverse are also well defined. The surfaces overall are fully lustrous with a bright, satiny appearance. There are, however, a number of small abrasions and luster grazes on each side which explain the grade.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25G7, PCGS# 7701)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 89.92% Gold, 10.08% Copper
