    Description

First-Year 1839-O Classic Head Two and a Half

1839-O $2 1/2 MS 61 PCGS. High Date, Wide Fraction. Following its receipt of two pairs of dies on March 14, 1839, the New Orleans Mint began quarter eagle production and delivered 17,781 pieces. A popular issue, the '39-O is the only Classic Head quarter eagle struck at this facility. Although relatively available in circulated grades, there are only about 20 Mint State survivors known. The bright, yellow-gold features of this BU specimen show pinpoint striking definition. The surfaces are quite lustrous for the grade, but a few small abrasions are present. A premium quality coin for the advanced gold collector.
