Description
1836 Classic Head Quarter Eagle, MS63
Script 8, Head of 1835, HM-4
1836 $2 1/2 Script 8, Head of 1835, HM-4, R.1, MS63 PCGS.
Star 5 is close to Liberty's curl, there is a Script 8 in the date,
and there is no berry on the branch, identifying the HM-4 variety.
The HM-4 is an available issue in lower grades, but examples in
MS63 condition are definitely elusive. This impressive Select
example displays well-detailed design elements, with a touch of the
usual softness on the centers. A die break travels from the rim,
through star 5 and the headband, and into the hair. The orange-gold
surfaces show the expected number of contact marks for the grade.
Population (all Script 8 varieties): 42 in 63 (4 in 63+), 16 finer
(5/21).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25FU, Variety PCGS# 764698, Base PCGS# 7694)
Weight: 4.18 grams
Metal: 89.92% Gold, 10.08% Copper
