    Description

    1839 HM-1 Two and a Half, AU53
    Underappreciated Philly Issue

1839 $2 1/2 HM-1, R.4, AU53 PCGS. The final-year Philadelphia Classic two and a half has a paltry mintage of 27,021 pieces. It is very scarce in all grades, but it typically trades for less than its branch mint cousins, though they appear at auction with equal or greater frequency. This caramel-gold representative displays light wear but luster outlines design elements. Marks are inconsequential, though we note a rim flaw on the reverse at 12:30.
    From The Maurice Storck Collection.
