Shattered Dies, Classic Head Type Coin
1839-C $2 1/2 XF40 PCGS. Breen-6150, Winter-2, Variety 22,
R.4. The 1839-C is a popular Charlotte type coin, being the
more plentiful of the two Classic Head issues from this mint. About
300-400 coins are known in all grades. This piece is lightly
circulated with yellow-gold surfaces that retain bits of luster in
the fields. Both dies are shattered, showing heavy die cracks on
each side. Housed in a green label holder.From The Ohio Valley Collection.(Registry values: P5)
