    Description

    Wailuku Plantation 6 1/4 Cent Token, AU50
    Narrow Starfish, Medcalf 2TE-4

(1871) TOKEN Wailuku Plantation 6 1/4 Cent, Narrow Starfish, AU50 PCGS. M. 2TE-4. The 6 1/4 cent or half real Wailuku Plantation token was both a worker chit and a convenience to company officers, since Mexican silver, the de facto coin of the realm, was in short supply. The pieces were made on location by blacksmiths, which explains the uneven strike seen on most examples. The present walnut-brown piece is void of marks and has seen little actual circulation, since the planchet texture is apparent across the high points. Listed on page 414 of the 2016 Guide Book. (NGC ID# 2UBM, PCGS# 600506)
