    Description

    1879 12.5C T. Hobron, Kahului-Wailuku 12 1/2 Cent Railroad Token, Thin Planchet, Six Star Reverse, XF40 PCGS. Medcalf 2TE-8. Captain Thomas H. Hobron built the first narrow gauge railroad in Maui to help transport sugar from the plantations to Kahului's port. The railroad began operations in July 1879, the year Hobron began issuing these tokens. The denomination, 12 1/2 cents, was interchangeable with one bit in Spanish-American money. An evenly struck and unblemished walnut-brown example. Listed on page 414 of the 2016 Guide Book.
