1879 Hawaiian T.H. Hobron Token, XF
12 1/2 Cent, Medcalf 2TE-9
Rare Two-Star Die Variant
1879 Thomas H. Hobron, 12 1/2 Cent Token, Two Stars on Both
Sides, XF40 PCGS. Medcalf 2TE-9. The design is similar to the
less rare Medcalf 2TE-8 railroad token, but both sides show only
two stars, and the denomination side has only three periods instead
of six. Struck on a thick planchet. The well-centered
mahogany-brown surfaces are unmarked and exhibit light, even wear.
The periphery of the date side retains the texture of the planchet
prior to the strike. Listed on page 414 of the 2016 Guide
Book. Population: 4 in 40, 1 finer (11/15).
