    Haiku Plantation, Medcalf TE-15

    1882 Haiku Plantation One Rial Token MS64 Brown PCGS. Medcalf TE-15. The Haiku Sugar Company was located east of Wailuku. The denomination, one rial, was based on the Spanish real and was equivalent to about a day's wages for a laborer on the plantation. Per Medcalf, the Haiku Plantation tokens are considered "the most artistic and well struck of the early metal tokens." An evenly struck and satiny chocolate-brown near-Gem. Marks are virtually absent, and a reverse strike-through near 3 o'clock is as made. Listed on page 414 of the 2015 Guide Book. Population: 3 in 64 (1 in 64+) Brown, 1 finer (6/14).
