Description

1883 Hawaii Silver Dollar, MS65
Rare High-End Example, CAC Approved

1883 $1 Hawaii Dollar MS65 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Forsythe Collection. The silver dollar is the scarcest of the silver Hawaii issues struck at the San Francisco Mint for the island kingdom. The coins were produced on regular silver dollar planchets and valued the same as a U.S. silver dollar. Of the 500,000 silver dollars struck most were later redeemed by the U.S. government and melted down, leaving a net mintage of just 46,348 pieces. Today, Gem examples are rare, and CAC pieces in this grade even more so. The current coin displays brilliant, radiant mint luster and a bold strike -- a good representation of a freshly struck Hawaii silver dollar. A few light marks in the left obverse field will serve as pedigree markers. Population: 16 in 65 (1 in 65+), 7 finer. CAC: 8 in 65, 2 finer (11/24).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2C5D, PCGS# 10995, Greysheet# 11093)
