Description

1883 Hawaii Quarter, PR65 Cameo
Only 26 Pieces Struck

1883 25C Hawaii Quarter PR65 Cameo PCGS. CAC. From a tiny mintage of just 26 pieces, the proof 1883 Hawaii quarter (or Hapaha) is extremely rare in Gem condition. Typically, years pass between auction appearances, and Heritage has never been privileged to offer a specimen in PR65 Cameo before. This one-year type coin was designed by Chief Engraver Charles Barber, and was struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
The present coin is a delightful Gem, the finest Cameo example certified at PCGS. The design elements are sharply detailed, with razor-sharp definition on the king's beard. The mirrored surfaces are blanketed in attractive shades of champagne-gold and lavender toning and contrast boldly with the frosty devices. Only a few minor hairlines and contact marks are evident. Population: 1 in 65 Cameo, 0 finer (11/11).
Seller is donating a portion of their proceeds, and Heritage is donating the same portion of the Buyer's Premium, from the sale of this lot to the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Institution. See page 3 for details. (NGC ID# 2C59, PCGS# 10989)
