Description

    1883 Hawaii Half Dollar, MS66
    None Numerically Finer

1883 50C Hawaii Half Dollar MS66 PCGS. CAC. Four regular-issue silver denominations were coined for Hawaii in 1883, all designed by Charles Barber and struck at the San Francisco mint on planchets of the U.S. standard. Half dollars were produced in the largest quantity (nearly 700,000 pieces), but when Hawaii became a U.S. Territory in 1900, the legal tender status of Hawaiian coinage was removed and most coins were eventually melted, after which the half dollar suddenly became one of the scarcer issues.

This lustrous Premium Gem is among the finest certified survivors, and exhibits blended aquamarine and golden-silver hues over each side. Remarkably sharp definition is seen on the hair and beard of the portrait, as well as the shield stripes on the reverse, with overall excellent eye appeal. Population: 5 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer (1/15). (NGC ID# 2C5B, PCGS# 10991)
