Description

Charles III gold 8 Escudos 1770 PN-J XF45 PCGS, Popayan mint, KM38.2, Cal-2035. An original coin with a mellow golden glow. Despite being in the name of Charles III, the bust on the obverse is that of his brother and predecessor, Ferdinand VI, which would continue on this type through 1771. This is a type that saw heavy circulation with no known Mint State examples at either service.
