    Description

Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1813/2 P-JF VF35 NGC, Popayan mint, KM71, Restrepo-120.4. An exceedingly rare transitional type still featuring the bust of the deceased Charles IV, this wholesome example, despite seeing some use in circulation, remains one of the nicest examples known of the type---and perhaps is, in fact, the finest known. Exhibiting a clear overdate with parts of the 2 visible directly beneath the 3, Retrepo, in his most recent edition (2012), lists the type as having just 8 known. Pleasingly toned, it features old time cabinet appeal and problem-free surfaces, as well as being well struck and with full rims. Opportunities to acquire such an enchantingly rare Latin American crown do not present themselves often, and when they do, they accordingly generate an appropriate degree of enthusiasm and excitement. We would expect this classical piece to be no different.
    Ex. Superior (12/1990 - Lot 606 @ $8,250 hammer)

    Estimate: $15,000 - $20,000.
