    Description

Philip IV cob 8 Reales 16(22) NR-A XF - Surface Corrosion,  Cartagena Mint, KM3.2. Virtually free of corrosion, nearly full weight (26g) and well struck on an impressively large flan. The obverse is choice with a well centered shield, clear assayer initial "A" and mintmark "RN" and partial King's name and numeral. The reverse is also attractive albeit the two last digits of the date at 11 o'clock are not struck up. Nevertheless, the date can unquestionably be established as 1622 through other (dated) specimens struck from the same pair of dies. One such coin is lot 378 in Sedwick Auctions 15. Historically important since among the first cob 8 Reales struck in Colombia, this issue is rare and much in demand when so choice. This piece comes with certificates of authenticity signed by Mike Dunigan and Mel Fischer.
