    Description

Massachusetts October 16, 1778 4s6d Gem New. This is an absolutely super Codfish note, boldly signed and totally problem-free. This type is extremely popular due in part to its evocative Colonial New England design, with the Codfish its central vignette, and in equal part to the fact that Paul Revere engraved the plate and printed the face of the note. The pine tree on the back is a cast cut, and the back of the note was printed by Thomas Fleet. This beautiful example is very well printed on both sides, and it's surrounded by broad margins. Just about as nice a Codfish note as any we have ever seen. The Choice New example in our January sale realized $1150, and we would expect this vastly superior piece to blow right by that price.
