Description
(1670-75) St. Patrick Farthing, AU50
W-11500, Martin 3g.1-Fc.2
(1670-75) St. Patrick Farthing, M. 3g.1-Fc.2, W-11500, AU50
PCGS. Breen-211. The design with "Sea Beasts" below the King.
The O in FLOREAT is punched over an errant A. The small size St.
Patrick coinage exists in 196 die combinations, and survivors are
typically in lower grades. The late Sydney F. Martin collected data
on the 30 most important collections to provide preliminary rarity
estimates. He reported 1,194 individual examples. The average of
six examples per variety suggests that nearly all varieties are R.7
or R.8. For that reason, we have elected not to emphasize Martin's
Low R.7 rarity for this die pair. This lovely piece has medium
brown patina with olive accents on both sides. Listed on page 11 of
the 2026 Guide Book. Population for all varieties: 19 in 50,
21 finer (6/25).Ex: US Coins Signature (10/2009), lot 10.
