    Important Sidewise 4 Plantation Token, Newman 6-C

    (1688) TOKEN American Plantations Token, Sidewise 4 VF Details, Corroded, NCS. Breen-81, "very rare." Newman 6-C and unknown to Eric Newman when he compiled his variety list that was published in the July 1955 issue of The Numismatist. This variety was identified by Breen from the Roper Collection, although this example is not the Roper coin. The 4 in the denomination was entered 'face down' with no attempt at correction. Breen states this variety is an Original and not a circa 1828 Restrike. This deep gray example has a few inconspicuous tin pests, but is relatively sharp with only lightly corroded surfaces. Listed on page 39 of the 2006 Guide Book.
