    (1694) London Elephant Token, VF25
Hodder 2-D LON DON Variety Rarity

(1694) 1/2 P London Elephant Token, LON DON VF25 PCGS. Hodder 2-D, W-12060, High R.6. The so-called "Godless" variety, being the only London Elephant token to not feature a reverse reading GOD PRESERVE LONDON. Considerably more rare than the usual London varieties. The present example is chocolate-brown with a smooth and pleasing obverse struck slightly off-center toward 11 o'clock. The reverse is weakly struck at the center, which is typical for this variety, and the surfaces are granular. A small pit on the left arm of the shield's cross is noted. Listed on page 48 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 1 in 25, 5 finer (10/17).
Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 4/2007), lot 125.
