(1694) 1/2 P London Elephant Token, Thick Planchet -- Edge Damage -- NGC Details. AU. Hodder 2-B, W-12040, R.2. A lightly circulated example of this classic type, collected as a colonial due to its rare reverse legend variants. The medium brown surfaces display moderate flan striations, as made. A thin line is noted above the tusks. The rim is consistently narrow and exhibits a fin, as if a past owner rotated the coin and tapped the edge with a spoon before finding another, more rewarding task. Listed on page 48 of the 2017 Guide Book.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2011), lot 3006, which realized $1,162.65.

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
