    Thin Planchet XF Elephant Token
    LONDON Variety, W-12040

    (1694) TOKEN London Elephant Token, Thin Planchet XF40 PCGS. Hodder 2-B, W-12040. Most Elephant tokens have a thick planchet, but according to the Whitman Colonial Encyclopedia, "a few are on thin, wide planchets." The thin planchet examples command an exceptional premium, as priced on page 46 of the 2013 Guide Book. The present chocolate-brown token is slightly off center toward 7 o'clock with an uneven strike in that area and opposite on the reverse. One area of deep gray toning noted at 12 o'clock.
