    Description

    Libertas Americana Medal, MS60 Brown
    Betts-615, Celebrating American Liberty

(1781) Libertas Americana Copper MS60 Brown NGC. Betts-615, Loubat-14. An appealing, left-facing representation of Liberty appears on the obverse of this desirable medal, with the rod of liberty behind her long, flowing hair and a Phrygian cap upon it. The reverse features representations of America (Hercules), France (Minerva), and England (the British lion). The medals were the work of French engraver Augustin Dupré (1748-1833).

An MS60 example of this medal representing American Independence, this piece displays consistent chocolate-brown color throughout along with strong design definition, providing this piece with wonderful visual appeal. Very few marks are present, all minor, with a small rim nick near 6 o'clock on the obverse serving as the only distraction, a minor one at that. A few scattered minuscule spots of verdigris are present, with the most noticeable appearing to the left of the helmet on the reverse, though the spot is tiny. Listed on page 90 of the 2014 Guide Book.
