Description

(1785) Bar Copper, Fine 15
W-8520, Iconic New York Issue

(1785) Bar Copper Fine 15 PCGS. Rulau-E-NY-621, Breen-1145, W-8520, R.4. The bar copper or "cent" first circulated in New York City in 1785. The private issue of unknown manufacture bore a design similar to the buttons on the uniforms of Yankee soldiers during the Revolutionary War. This is a circulated chocolate-brown example with minimally marked surfaces that show a hint of granularity in protected regions. Listed on page 41 of the 2026 Guide Book.
