    Bar Copper 'Cent', AU55+
    Excellent Eye Appeal

(1785) Cent Bar Copper AU55+ PCGS Secure. W-8520, R.4. The iconic "Bar cent" circulated in New York, as reported by the November 12, 1785 New Jersey Gazette. The designs were derived from buttons on the uniforms of Continental Army officers. This better-grade chocolate-brown example has pleasing surfaces. No marks are remotely worthy of comment. All well-known diagnostics are present, including the spur up from the left end of the second bar, the short vertical die crack at the reverse center, and the A over S over U obverse layout, which differs from the circa-1862 John Bolen copy. Listed on page 86 of the 2019 Guide Book.
