    XF Sharpness

(1785) 'USA' Bar Token -- Reverse Scratches -- NGC Details. XF. Breen-1145, W-8520, R.4. The design of the "Bar cent" was based on the uniform buttons of Continental Army soldiers and circulated in New England, per the November 12, 1785 New Jersey Gazette. This sharp tan-brown example is struck several degrees off center toward 4:30, with high relief dentils in some areas and no dentils in others. The reverse exhibits several lengthy but fairly light horizontal pinscratches, entered during an idle hour many generations ago. Listed on page 86 of the 2019 Guide Book.
