    Washington Funeral Medal, VF Details
    Rare Skull & Crossbones Type
    Silver, Baker-165A

(1800) Washington Funeral Medal, Skull & Crossbones, Silver -- Graffiti -- PCGS Genuine. VF Details. Baker-165A, Die Variety 1-A1. The Skull and Crossbones type is much rarer than its Funeral Urn counterpart. It was made for Washington's Masonic funeral procession in Boston on February 11, 1800, while the Funeral Urn medals were worn at Washington's February 22, 1800 civic funeral procession. Both designs are credited to Massachusetts engraver Jacob Perkins, and all examples seen exhibit a small hole near 12 o'clock, as issued. This example displays even wear except for weakness on the central reverse, affecting portions of OB.D.15. '99. The graffiti noted by PCGS is minor, and consists of a small, faint letter T on the obverse at 6 o'clock.
