    Description

    '1737' Higley Copper, Near-Mint
Bolen-Edwards Copy, W-14285, Struck in Silver

(Circa-1864) "1737" Higley Copper, Edwards Copy, Silver, AU58 PCGS. Kenney-4, Musante JAB-10, W-14285, R.7. Civil War-era medallist J.A. Bolen provided a popular series of copies of rare colonials. Among his output was the JAB-10 copy of W-8200, Higley's introductory THREE PENCE / CONNECTICVT variety. Bolen sold the dies to Dr. Edwards in 1865, and it is unknown whether a given piece was struck by Bolen or Edwards. In any event, silver examples are much rarer than their copper counterparts. This powder-blue and gold representative is mark-free and shows only a trace of wear. The flan is slightly undersized and out of round, and the strike shows minor softness along the right-side borders.
