    Description

1652 6PENCE Pine Tree Sixpence, Pellets at Trunk -- Reverse Scratched -- NGC Details. VF. Noe-33, W-670, Salmon 2-B, R.3. 33.2 grains. The Pine Tree coinage replaced the earlier Oak Tree motif, probably around 1667, but the 1652 date was retained. The Noe-33 variety is characterized by the position of the tree distant from the beads, and the presence of a pellet on either side of the tree. The obverse of this piece is off-center toward 12 o'clock as usual. The devices are well detailed, but a few thin scratches are evident under the date. Listed on page 41 of the 2020 Guide Book.
Ex: C.H. Stearns Collection (Mayflower, 12/1966), lot 140; The W. Philip Keller Collection of U.S. Colonials / Stamford Coinfest Signature (Heritage, 10/2010), lot 3003, which realized $6,325.
