    Rare Noe-3 Oak Tree Shilling

1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling AU50 PCGS.. Noe-3, R.6. 70.4 grains. This is a high grade specimen of a rare variety of Massachusetts silver. There is a punch mark on the reverse which also made a mark on the obverse to the right of the tree. But the detail in some areas, especially on the tree, is terrific. The obverse is slightly off-center in the same direction as the Noe plate coin. This resulted in the bottom of the obverse showing evidence that the edge of the die was straight rather than round. This is perfectly consistent with the work of Richard Doty and Michael Hodder showing that a rocker press was used to mint these coins rather than a screw press. Listed on page 18 of the 2002 Guide Book.
    From the Collection of Joseph M. Seventko. (NGC ID# 2ARN, PCGS# 20)
