Description

1652 Oak Tree Shilling, Noe-3, W-450, AU58
Impressive and Rare in Such a High Grade

1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling AU58 NGC. Noe-3, W-450, R.6. IN at Left. 72.08 gns. The 2 in the date resides opposite EW in NEW on the reverse, the primary diagnostic feature that distinguishes this variety from Noe-1 and Noe-2, the other "IN at Left" variants. A conditionally rare near-Mint example, this boldly struck piece exhibits an impressive degree of design detail, especially on the reverse. The obverse is misaligned toward two o'clock, with most of MASATHV off of the flan, with the reverse slightly off-center toward 5 o'clock. Matching planchet flaws reside near the rim at 8 o'clock on the obverse and 4 o'clock on the reverse, but pose only minor distractions on this gorgeous, impressive coin. Listed on page 39 of the 2015 Guide Book. NGC Census for all three "IN at Left" Varieties: 2 in 58, 2 finer (6/14).

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 20, Greysheet# 8)
