Popular 1652 Noe-5 Oak Tree Shilling, MS61

1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling MS61 NGC. IN at bottom. Crosby 2-D, Noe-5, W-470, R.2. 66.4 grains. The obverse of Noe-5 is typically found off-center and off the planchet at 6 o'clock, with a wide margin at 12 o'clock. The reverse is common to Noe-4, 5, 6, and 7, and usually has a vertical die crack from 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock, as on this example. Both sides have pleasing, lustrous silver-gray surfaces with splashes of darker toning. Close inspection reveals a few minor imperfections that have accumulated over the last 357 years.
