Description

1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling PCGS Genuine. IN at bottom. Noe-13.3, W-520, R.7. 73.45 gn. One of the ephemeral Noe subvarieties cataloged by Richard Picker and Walter Breen. The tree is reengraved by the maker from Noe-13, notably on the shrub right of the tree, but does not yet resemble the spiny tree. Parallel diagonal die breaks appear near the TS in MASATHVSETS. The obverse is well centered with full legends, while the reverse is slightly misaligned toward 12 o'clock. The strike is quite sharp in places, but the tree is softly defined, and the darkly toned piece is granular from cleaning. Listed on page 37 of the 2009 Guide Book.
