    Description

    Noe-10, W-750 1652 Pine Tree Shilling
    Impressive MS62 Survivor

1652 SHILNG Pine Tree MS62 PCGS. CAC. Large Planchets, No Pellets, Noe-10, W-750, Salmon-8-Diii, R.3. 69.75 gn. While this die pair is only scarce in an absolute sense, any Massachusetts silver coinage in Mint State is an indisputable condition rarity. The pieces were made more than three centuries ago, after all, under frontier conditions and pressed into service for a Colonial economy starved by mercantilist policies of most gold and silver. This MS62 example shows evidence of the crudeness of its creation, a wavy irregular planchet and distortion in the legend at the top of the obverse, yet the generous luster under light toning ranging from rose to gold and green to blue is undeniably appealing. Listed on page 39 of the 2013 Guide Book. (NGC ID# 2ARV, Variety PCGS# 45370, Base PCGS# 23)
