1652 Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet, XF40
Ligatured NE Guide Book Variety, Noe-8

1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet, Ligatured NE, XF40 PCGS. Noe-8, W-740, Salmon 7-E, R.4. 69.60 grains. The curving flag on the 5, absence of a die break below GL, and so-called ligatured NE (per the Guide Book) in NEW confirm the attribution for this Large Planchet Pine Tree shilling. The coin is clipped at 6 o'clock in accordance with weight standards at the Boston Mint. Shades of light and dark gray patina cover this typically wavy but well-defined XF40 representative. Listed on page 41 of the 2020 Guide Book.
