Important MS62 Noe-8.2
Large Planchet Pine Tree Shilling

1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet MS62 NGC. CAC. No Pellets at Trunk. Crosby 1b-D, Noe-8.2, R.6. 72.24 gn. The 'Monogram NE' variety, which fuses the right upright of the N in NEW with the upright of the E. A fully lustrous example with splendid detail, especially on the tree. All peripheral legends are intact aside from the tops of the HVS in MASATHVSETS, absent due to a straight mint-made clip. Another mint clip near 3 o'clock removes a few beads but does not affect any letters. Practically all Massachusetts silver coinage has mint clips, in order to bring the weight of the piece within standards. A wave across the tree to 4:30 and a second wave on the reverse near 6 o'clock are also as made, due to its rocker press emission. The unblemished surfaces are originally toned in apple-green, lilac, and tan-gold. Listed on page 37 of the 2009 Guide Book. No Pellets NGC Census: 6 in 62, 6 finer (11/08).

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 23, Greysheet# 9)
