Description
Choice VF 1652 Noe-9 Pine Tree Shilling
1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet VF30 PCGS. Noe-9, R.6. 69.4 grains. By the time examples of Noe-9 were produced, the obverse die had been drastically reground, which probably accounts for the somewhat indistinct appearance of several features on that side of this coin. Indeed, the two Noe-9 Pine Tree Shillings that Stack's sold as lots 122 and 123 in the January 15, 2002 sale of the Hain Family Collection of Massachusetts Silver Coins are similar in appearance on the obverse. The reverse of the present representative is appreciably bolder with both sides displaying original toning in well blended lilac-gray and olive-gray shades. A few scattered distractions are noted, the largest of which is located on the obverse between the T and S in MASATHVSETS. Listed on page 18 of the 2003 Guide Book.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 23, Greysheet# 9)
