    Description

Rare Die State Noe-2 Pine Tree Shilling VF35

1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet VF35 PCGS. Noe-2, Crosby 4-F, R.5. 67.9 grains. The distinctive and scarce "Straight Tree" variety. A wavy lavender-gray example with a minor edge flaw at 12 o'clock and a couple of areas of uneven wear. Probably bent and straightened in its past. Slightly off center toward 6 o'clock, although the legends are generally intact. A slender die break at 5 o'clock is noteworthy, as no such break appeared in any of Hain or Ford specimens. This break suggests that Noe-2 was struck after Noe-3, since Noe-3 does not exhibit the break or die re-engraving to efface the break. Listed on page 37 of the 2007 Guide Book.
Ex: Joseph M. Seventko Collection (Heritage, 1/02), lot 5012.
