Description
1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Small Planchet--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. Fine Details. Crosby 14-R, Noe-29, W-930, R.3. 72.8 grains. The 5 in the date is heavy and the top of the tree points to the lower right foot of the H in MASATHVSETS, which is diagnostic. Light gray patina covers the design elements, while the fields have a deeper complexion. Several of the upper right letters are partially struck off the flan, but the rest of the details are clearly defined. Still a nice example of this popular variety. Listed on page 37 of the 2010 Guide Book.From The Mulkin Collection.
