1694 Carolina Elephant Token
1694 TOKEN Carolina Elephant Token, PROPRIETORS Fine 15 PCGS.
Hodder 2-F, W-12120, R.6. A very rare variety of the popular
Elephant token. The second O in PROPRIETORS is punched over an E,
correcting the blunder seen on Hodder 1-E. The obverse die is
shared with the "common" GOD PRESERVE LONDON variety, and also the
extremely rare GOD PRESERVE NEW ENGLAND token. The present piece
has deep brown toning, and the surfaces are mildly granular with
wear concentrated on the central legends. The reverse displays a
few faint pinscratches. Listed on page 45 of the 2011 Guide
