Important 1710-D French Colonies Double Sol, MS63

1710-D 30DEN French Colonies 30 Deniers MS63 PCGS. Breen-280, Vlack-2, R.2. The present 30 deniers piece, also known as a "Mousquetaire" or double sol, is the only 1710-D certified as Mint State by PCGS. The John J. Ford Collection contained 32 double sols of various dates and mints from 1709 to 1713, yet only two of those were cataloged as Uncirculated. The finest 1710-D double sol in the Ford sale was just AU. While these French 30 deniers coins are seemingly commonplace in today's numismatic marketplace, we cannot overemphasize the importance of such a high quality example.
Evenly struck and satiny with ice-blue, tan-gold, and olive toning. The upper right obverse field is minutely granular and displays wispy marks, possibly as struck, but the remainder of this French colonies example is well preserved. Listed on page 51 of the 2009 Guide Book.
