    1712-D French Colonies 30 Deniers, VF25
    Lyon Mint, Vlack-5

1712-D French Colonies 30 Deniers, Breen-286, Vlack-5, W-11730, R.3, VF25 NGC. In 1994, Michael Hodder asked: "Are there any coins that are really French-Canadian?" He continued to say, "Finding an answer is not as easy as posing the question." The Lyon Mint 30 deniers are considered one of those issues that did circulate in Canada. Edicts dated 1709 and 1711 authorized 40 million coins, but the actual recorded mintage exceeded 100 million coins. This piece was struck on an imperfect planchet with the edge ragged at 8 o'clock. Splashes of gold toning appear on the attractive stone-gray surfaces. Listed on page 55 of the 2021 Guide Book.
Ex: Warren Baker (12/6/1979); Donald G. Partrick.
