1720-A French Colonies 20 Sols
Attractively Toned AU55
Gadoury-296, KM-453

1720-A 1/6ECU French Colonies Livre d'argent fin, 1/6 Ecu AU55 PCGS. Gadoury-296, KM-453. Designated as a 20 sols by PCGS, and also listed as such on page 50 of the 2012 Guide Book, since the value corresponds to the denominated 20 sols Gadoury-295. John Law had control of the French Mints in 1720, and used them in his ill-fated Louisiana Territory land venture that was known as the Mississippi Bubble that caused a European financial disaster. This piece is a lovely reminder of that time in history and exhibits a high degree of luster and only a trace of wear under the splendid iridescent toning. Listed on page 54 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 5 in 55, 6 finer (6/17).
