    Double Struck 1722 Rosa Americana Penny

    1722 PENNY VTILE DVLCI Rosa Americana Penny AU53 PCGS. Breen-113. Short ribbons. Unusual Criss-Cross edge device. Clearly double struck, and visible on the neck and base of the central obverse device, and at top of the rose on the reverse. Three minor die varieties are known, according to Breen in his Complete Encyclopedia, where he called this type "rare." Attractive surfaces with pale olive and dark brown color blended together on both sides. Faint corrosion is visible on both sides as usual. Listed on page 40 of the 2006 Guide Book.
