Description

1723 1/2P Hibernia Halfpenny MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. Small 3. No pellet before H. Breen-159, the "Beaded Cincture" variety. Red legends and device outlines contrast nicely with medium brown fields. The surfaces are smooth and lustrous, and exhibit an appealing, natural reflectivity. There are a couple of minor marks on the left reverse. Perhaps the most notable aspect of this coin, besides its remarkable eye appeal, is the beaded cincture that appears across the waist of the seated figure on the reverse, opposite the head of the angel on the harp. Five beads are sharp under low magnification. Listed on page 43 of the 2008 Guide Book.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/02), lot 5015.
