Important 1739-A Sou Marque Variant1739-A SOU M French Colonies Sou Marque MS63 PCGS. Breen-391, Vlack-17b, very rare (Vlack R.6). Struck in the second semester. The 1739-A date and mint combination is possibly the single most common of all Sou Marque pieces, however, nearly all survivors were struck in the first semester. Examples from the second semester are important rarities that are highly desired by specialists. Light gray in color with an occasional toned mint-made planchet flaw. The surfaces are radiant and undeterred by contact, retaining virtually full silvering. Struck a few degrees off center toward 6 o'clock, the top of the date is tight against the rim. Listed on page 51 of the 2006 Guide Book.
