Description

1741-A SOU M French Colonies Sou Marque AU55 NGC. Breen-394, Vlack-20, R.1. Delightful pale gray with light champagne toning. A pleasing piece with virtually full silvering and noticeable satin luster. Minor planchet granularity at the centers is as made. Heavy die cracks from 3:30 to 7:30 on the obverse and on the N and C in BENEDICTUM. In his reference, Vlack described this issue as common, due to the existence of a small hoard of these first semester pieces. He went on to state that most examples were worn, and all lacked silvering. With full silvering, this variety remains rare. Listed on page 51 of the 2008 Guide Book.
