    Description

1760 Hibernia-Voce Populi Halfpenny, VF Details
Rare P Below Bust, W-13960 Variety

1760 1/2P Hibernia-Voce Populi Halfpenny, P Below Bust--Scratches--NGC Details. VF. Z. 16-O, N-14, W-13960, R.7. Walter Breen described the W-13960 die variety as "extremely rare." Only three obverse dies are known with the P beneath the bust. The W-13960 variety can be distinguished by the position of the letter I, placed further from the bust than on the other varieties. NGC suggests this piece is "scratched," and some light scratches are evident near the pole on the reverse. We consider the VF Details grade extremely conservative in this case. Listed on page 47 of the 2011 Guide Book. MRB VF20.
